Dionis Minev

Student, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Mechanical Engineering

About myself

“I moved back to Germany in 2007 after 4 years in Australia and started studying Mechanical Engineering in 2008 at KIT. I am currently writing my bachelor’s thesis in a geothermal probe research project in order to finish my degree. I entered the PionierGarage in 2010 and have since been involved in many different tours and projects. Currently I am in the marketing team helping expand our visibility and trying to get more students in Karlsruhe as well as generally in Germany interested in entrepreneurship.”

What are you most excited about?

“To meet up with inspiring people that can pass on some of their personal experience and give us some insight into the Silicon Valley entrepreneurship culture. I am also very excited about our return and the change it will spark in our student group.”

Why are you an entrepreneur?

“I want to be free and control something I built myself, without the influence of existing structures or restraints that might limit my possibilities. I love the process of having the initial idea and developing it until I can see a visible outcome. I believe, I dream and I am motivated. I think that’s why I am an entrepreneur.”

Thilo Koch

Business Engineering

About myself

“Since 2008 I am a student of Industrial Engineering and Management at KIT. I am with the Pioneers from the very first days of my studies. As a former president I always aim to drive forward the entrepreneurial spirit around me and our young students in Karlsruhe.  After my exchange semester in South Korea and an internship with Daimler in Beijing, China, I got reinvolved in our activities.

What are you most excited about?

“I expect to make an incredible experience with visiting awesome people make a difference and contribute to the Valley’s unique atmosphere. I hope to see a broad range of businesses, like from the “just-started” company to the well-established business as well as VCs, business angels or incubators. The great variety of people we will meet can help me to get a deep insight in the most successful tech area in the world. I am convinced to broaden my mind catching the spirit.

Why are you an entrepreneur?

“Right after high school I’ve been the first employee of a Rocket Internet (German incubator) funded start-up in Berlin and got infected by the special entrepreneurial spirit. I made an extraordinary experience being more than an employee and ever since aim to start my own business. Currently I am involved in an early stage project regarding mobility in Germany.”

Jonas Pfefferle

Jonas Pfefferle

Student, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Business Engineering

About myself

“After finishing my A levels in a small city next to Karlsruhe I headed down under for a work and travel journey through the whole continent. Back home in Germany, I started attending university classes in Industrial Engineering in 2010 at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Right now I’m entering the third term of my studies but what fascinates me most is the great non-academic opportunity at campus. That’s why I’m glowing to work with other students and prepare freshman courses voluntarily.”

What are you most excited about?

“I’m looking forward to meet all this thrilled and dedicated people working in The Valley. Doesn’t matter whether they’re part of the student entrepreneurship club BASES or CEO at Google, I think they all share a bit of the similar glowing that seems to light in The Valley.”

Why are you an entrepreneur?

“I’ve always been a curious person asking questions about almost everything. So today I’m still driven to find their answers. In my opinion, the best way to achieve something is to launch new ventures and take the full responsibility for the outcome. I’m sure it’s the only way to find the right answers to the questions that matter most to you.”
